Cheese Shares
We are happy to offer cheeses from Caromont Farm.
Situated in southern Albermarle County, Caromont Farm exemplifies what farming is all about – sustainability, commitment and connection to the land. On these rolling twenty-three acres in the Rockfish River Valley, Gail Hobbs-Page draws on the strength of her beloved North Carolina roots and the natural beauty of Esmont, Virginia to create something unique. Once a local chef who used Horse & Buggy produce in her restaurant, Gail is now providing her cheeses to us so they can be available to you as a share item.
We offer two different cheese shares:
Farmstead Chevre share:
The Farmstead Chevre is a fresh goat cheese in the style of Fromage Blanc, reflective of the terroir of Old Green Mountain. It is an excellent alternative to cream cheese or boursin on sandwiches. Try it on pizzas and omelets, or as a sauce enhancer for main courses
The Farmstead Chevre will be delivered in 1-lb increments bi-weekly or every 4 weeks.
Artisanal Cheese Share (fall only)
This is a combination box of four artisanal cheeses (two local pasteurized goat cheeses and two local pasteurized cow’s milk cheeses):
Farmstead Chevre, 4 oz. Suggested shelf life: 10 days.
Alberene Ash, 8-9 oz – a fresh goat cheese, aged two weeks with a layer of vegetable ash in the center; creamy with a pronounced mineral overtone and hints of blue as it ages. Suggested shelf life: 2 weeks.

Bloomsbury, 5-6 oz – a soft cow’s milk cheese similar to Camembert. Surface-ripened, cultured butter from grass-fed cows with a hint of mushroom notes. Suggested shelf life: 2 weeks.

Red Row, 4-5 oz – a hard cow’s milk cheese washed in B. linens as it ages, giving the rind a nice aroma of flora and fauna. Densej and mild with a hint of pineapple (similar to Alpine cheeses). Suggested shelf life: 1 month.
This artisanal combination box will be delivered every 4 weeks.
