Winter Shares: January – March 2012

Stave off those winter blues and join Horse & Buggy Produce for a winter share this year!  Our winter season, limited to 200 subscribers, brings beautiful cold-weather produce and artisanal foods to your kitchen from January through the end of March.  Here’s some of what will appear in our winter shares in 2012:

Produce

  • Apples
  • Bibb lettuce
  • Blackberries (frozen)
  • Blueberries (frozen)
  • Cucumbers (hydroponic)
  • Eggs
  • Greens, such as kale, collards, & mustard
  • Oyster & shiitake mushrooms

  • Winter squash, such as acorn, butternut, carnival, and pumpkin

 

Local Artisanal Foods

  • Breads
  • Cheese
  • Cornmeal
  • Pasta
  • Apple butter
  • Apple cider
  • Maple syrup
  • Sorghum molasses
  • Honey, and…
  • Brett Wilson’s homemade Concord grape juice

 

Sounds like a delicious couple of months! Here are the details:

 

  • Choose a Family, weekly Couple or bi-weekly Couple share: We will have the usual options for share sizes this winter. A Couple share is about 2/3 of a Family share. (If you’re ordering a Couple share, you must click on the drop-down list to choose whether you want it delivered weekly or bi-weekly. If you want a “Single share,” choose the bi-weekly Couple share option.)

 

  • Flexible Menus: Our regular exchange rules still apply, so if you’d rather not have something in your share on a given week, you can always email the office and request more of something else.

 

  • Cost: The price for winter shares is $35 for Family shares and $24 for Couple shares (weekly or bi-weekly).  This cost reflects the nature of winter produce: it is generally scarcer and more expensive than in the growing months.  However, by including bread, cheese, pasta, and other artisanal products, our winter produce shares can really make dinner happen, all by themselves!

 

  • Locations/Delivery Service: The winter shares are limited to Charlottesville. All shares will be pre-boxed, and can be delivered to your home or office (within city limits), or picked up at one of our sites. For a full list of winter delivery and pickup locations, click here.
